5 singles / 5 months

Our  monthly release project of a new single with a video created by local filmmakers.

When we launched our album, Leave It All Behind, at the Old Dubbo Gaol with a music/art/video experience that included projected moving images from local artists, it sparked a keen desire for further exploration and collaboration of sound and image. We've undertaken a mission to put out a new track every month for five months from September 2017 onwards, along with a locally made film clip.

Lyrics

A Benediction

Hoping for a benediction
I'd settle for a taste of whiskey
And a better change of circumstance

Staring at a pale reflection
Wondering what they'll put me in for
We're lonely but we’ll only take one chance

Consume my pride and eat my envy
I'll bear the blame and wear the wounding
We're stumbling blind, I hear your art but nothing's left

Christ it's like the resurrection
We could rise but Babel's burning
Better not to try than face the consequence

Why the fear to need you to breathe and perceive you
These confessions again
Oh, the pain it stays
Burn it out, this innocent flesh is stained

I haven't got what it takes to make this a big success
But give me twenty odd years and I'll find a way out of this mess
Finally all of the fakes will be feeling the new intent
But give them twenty odd years, they'll be feeding the foolish again

No I ain't got what it takes to make this a big success
But give me twenty odd years, I'll believe in something I guess
Finally all of the fakes will be feeling the new intent
But give them twenty odd years, they'll be feeding the foolish again

Crash

It came…
…crashing like a cannonball
Hey Mary did it move you at all
Did it break you down to the bone
Like you cut me down to the core

This is…
…not the sound of the end of the world
You start out like there's never a before
You wake up it's strangers at arms
In the end we're just another war

Brace yourself (Better go ahead and brace yourself)
Go ahead and brace yourself (Better go ahead and brace yourself)
This is the worst day
Of the rest of your life

You saved yourself (Just had to go and save yourself)
You went ahead and saved yourself (Just had to go and save yourself)
This is the first day
And the best of your life

It's the...
…same old story with just another name
Walking out of the windows again
Another break, another foothold regained
Mix it up and but it all tastes the same

This is...
…not the sound of the end of the world
You start out with the best of it all
You wake up it's pistols at dawn
In the end it's just another war

Two lives of too stray vectors
Predestined for intersection
You're just the first / You are the last
Brace for the crash

Ghosts of California

Been standing here for so long, I know something's going on
But I don’t know what
There’s reasons we’re falling, tomorrow’s ghost is calling
But we won’t give it up

Last night we dreamt of summers in Hollywood
With a tendency for rain
It won’t be long before these demons that follow us
We won’t see them again

I lied when I told you my feelings were over
That picture of her from the Fall
Come closer, come lately, come hell or high water
We’re bracing ourselves for the war.

Only just yesterday, you said send them all away
I think that our cover here is blown
On Venice and Sunset we’ll find what we lost again
And make our own Babylon

Run

We took the night, took it alone
We took the sky above, to be our own
They came at night, they came alone
Came for the two of us, to bear us home

Run, run, run for deliverance
Soaked to the bone and shivering
Run, run, run for deliverance

The world was young, and so were we
An ocean could not stand, between our need
We broke the waves, they washed us clean
All we have is everything, we’re wild and free

Run, run, run for deliverance
Soaked to the bone and shivering
Run, run, run for deliverance

The road on the river, the bridge on the border
The call of the river, the call of the water
The fall of the innocent, rise to the calling
Run to the river, run to the water
Run to the river tonight
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run

Run, run, run for deliverance
Soaked to the bone and shivering
Run, run, run for deliverance
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run

Rising Sun

A single spire hoards the horizon
A single moment stolen from reason
In the wake of the instant I am there

And you're home in your bedroom
Pale and drawn and feeling the house move
Oh the miles, the distance in your head

If you want me stay, I can stay (I can stay away)
What you want me to be, I can be (Be just a memory)
If you want me stay, I can stay (I can stay away)
What you want me to be, I can be (Be just a memory)

Every day it's late so early
Every evening it's waiting to burn me
Makes me wonder from where the darkness springs

Hey my dear of course there's a logic
If there weren't we could never withstand it
It exists and our fear can be denied

If you want me stay, I can stay (I can stay away)
What you want me to be, I can be (Be just a memory)

And we'll all rise up, in the wake of the setting sun
And we'll all rise up, in the wake of the setting sun

If you want me stay, I can stay
What you want me to be, I can be
If you want me stay, I can stay
What you want me to be, I can be (In the wake of the setting sun)

Last Lovers Alive

Let’s talk about love, or life, or nothing
They’re all the same
Let’s talk about all the ways we’re running
And the reasons we remain
I’m wondering if we had seen this coming
Would we have saved the world today
We were the last of all the lovers
No one will feel this way again

It started in the fall with the sense that the summer
Was the antidote to rain
We ended up jumping into each other
To stave the winter strain
And we must be unique, we’re the first to discover
That there is more beyond the pale
We are the last of all the lovers
No one will feel this way again

Before there was you there was nothing but the struggle
And the seasons and the weight
There was just a sore and a lowly lover
Knowing nothing but to take
When are you sending me someone to covet
Against this solitary fate
We’ll be the first of all of the lovers
To ever feel this way

Fallen

I’ve been having trouble sleeping
Something to do with this feeling of déjà vu
And my head is spinning
I got something to prove to you

When we make too much noise
And when they all come to our door
We’ll explain that the rain half a world away
Is falling for you / I’m falling

A memory of knives, night
Unconscious moves and days
A paternity of lies and flight
Cigarettes and ashtrays

Where’s a broken man to go?
There’s pieces of us everywhere
Guess that’s why that the sky half the time
Is falling for you / I’m falling

This legacy of life in fright
The vicious blues and greys
The gravity of day and night
Always stealing you away

And if we make it through this time
Let’s agree we won’t ask why
That we find that the sky half the time
Is falling for you / I’m falling

So let’s make too much noise
When they all come to our door
We’ll explain that the rain half a world away
Is falling for you / I’m falling
We’ve all fallen for you

Feeling for Fashion

So you never felt passion, just feeling for fashion
Tried us on for the thrill of the show
So your life’s about living, and giving and freeing
You need to go places you and I will never know

Can you show me something that’s better than this
Or is this all that there is
I'd like to know

So you’re leaving on Sunday, gonna see the world Monday
And on Tuesday you’ll let us all know
We should all think of leaving if we wanna start breathing
Can’t have us holding you down on the ground any more

Duck for Cover

How many days since your casual confessions
The wistful relay of your idle indiscretions
And me the master of the mindful disposition
How do we mend this endless daylight hour division

All the cracks around this thing begin to splinter
Already wasted but I’m braced for something bigger
Can we agree at least that something has to give here
Or maybe baby, I’ll just stand while you deliver

It’s colder here than the bridge above the river, where we
Danced and sang until the colours ran together, you said
Let’s not talk about who will be who's forever
I am what I am and you can just duck for cover

Meet me on Monday at the end of the street
Time for old time’s sake to take time to see, if the
Freedom we needed came at the cost of being free
I’m sorry for Sunday if you’re sorry for me

Hold On

We said our last goodbyes to the state
As we sailed off into the night
And maybe it's some cruel trick of fate
But baby I'm feeling alright

Hold on like you’ve never held anything before
Where’s the mystery when all the meaning is on the wall
We bear these injuries that remind us of how we fall
It’s 14 hours more to California
Hold on baby

Face to face with my regrets
I chose the lesser of two demons
Looking back now I understand
I drove this nail through my own hand

Southern Song

Fly the 6am to catch the southern sun
Break up with the city and her winter rush
Welcomed by my river to her loving arms
She murmurs, ‘Such a pity, why’s it been so long’?

Hello Louisiana my darling
What will it take to make you be mine?
Wind my way across the Mississippi delta
Turn on your bright lights, shine baby shine

Now we’re moving slowly like we’re losing blood
We’re never gonna leave here when our time is done

Hello Louisiana my darling
What will it take to make you be mine?
Slide with me across the Mississippi delta
Throw away your bad times, shine baby shine

So come on Louisiana my darling
Just for the weekend say you’ll be mine
I know they all say Virginia’s for the lovers
But we’re gonna show ‘em how we shine baby shine

Return to real existence and the race we run
We dreamed we’d never leave that perfect southern sun

Goodbye Louisiana my darling
Promise me now you will always be mine
Follow me home across the Mississippi delta
Cradle our memory and shine baby shine

Beautiful Lies

I’m trying to tell you I’m tired, I’m tired, I’m tired
And now, you’re telling me we’re fine
I’m trying to make it alright, I’m trying, I’m trying
But how’d we waste a million miles

Spend our time preoccupied with our beautiful lives
Never feeling the damage we do with our beautiful lies
Set fire to the city and run for our lives
One last chance to make it through this mess alive

Time to put out this fire, it’s time, it’s time
For now, we can’t pretend we’re fine

Save Me

Taking it on the chin
Taking you down with me
Taking it out of here to bury it in the ground
You were going to save me
Now who’s going to save me
Now who’s going to save me

So come on over it’s 5 o’clock
And we’ve only just begun to lay the lines out

You say we’re too close to see what’s real
Well I don’t know what that means
Now the whole world is turning upside down
All these pale horses are riding into town
And running all around

So come on over it’s 9 o’clock
And we’ve only just begun to tear our minds out

Why did we we think
That we could possibly live
Without breathing and why'd we hold it all inside
Tonight is the night that you and I collide
So bring on the night

So don’t come over, it's been too long
And we are too far gone to care our time’s out

Stand Up

Hey let’s do what we did last week
I'll pretend that I can’t see
Anything you want from me

Looks like the rules have changed
Since we last played this game
It’s such a shame we danced it all away

It was in our hands to be the first ones
We had our plans to be the next ones
We lost our chance to be the last ones
To be last ones standing

So run away with me
I’ll be young and you’ll be free
We’ll both wear faded worn out jeans
Like they do on our TV screens

Seems that you are leaving me
For the coast on last night’s train
Is there anything you want to say?

Otherman

He lives a solitary life
Round and round like a carousel ride
And time is slowly passing by
And he just sits and wonders why

He feels the same as every other man does
He numbs the pain until it all wears off
He hangs around until the night comes on

Always knew there was something more to life
Just a matter of time till his chance comes by
By and by he’s more and more unwired
And he can’t understand why

She breathes the city in at night
Drinking in all the neon of the lights
Every time that she moves she’s electrified
And she never wonders why

These Bridges

Everything about these bridges and what they cross
Everything about these pictures and what they’re of
Everything about you and me and the summertime
Let’s throw it in baby, leave it all behind

I’ve got a feeling that we’ll be alright
So come on baby leave it
Come on baby leave it
Come on baby leave it all behind

I been thinking about inches and the space between
All those stolen moments, all the shame, the grief
I been thinking about ditching this ordinary life
Let’s throw it in baby, leave it all behind
